The New York Times puts to the test Google, Yahoo and Microsoft machine translation tools March 11, 2010
Interesting article that shows the advances in machine translation and the differences between some of the most important machine translation tools out there. It also shows that Google seems to be ahead of its competitors. Fortunately, from my point of view, we (translators) shouldn’t worry. Not yet. Read it here.
Awesome Book on Open Translation Tools February 21, 2010
I just discovered a new book that I found very interesting while reading a blog by Kirti Vashee. It is about sharing, collaborating and “peer production” models of translation. Definitely worth to read. You can do it as a web site or a pdf here.
translating a mesostic December 4, 2009
I see every new translation as a challenge, but this one was special. When it comes down to art and literature, creativity is a must, but when you have to face the translation of a mesostic, it requires an even greater creative effort in order to convey the meaning and keep the original format. In this case I had to translate a mesostic by Alec Finlay from English into Spanish and Galician. This interview is part of the book Entre-vista, published by the Galician Museum of Contemporary Art. Here you can check the translation and also the source text, in case you didn’t know how a mesostic looks like.
